The Toyota FJ Cruiser is a 4-door, 5-passenger
sport-utility, available in 3 trims, ranging from the
4X2 to the 4X4 AT. Upon introduction, both trims are
equipped with a standard 4.0-liter, V6, 239-horsepower
engine that achieves 16-mpg in the city and 20-mpg on
the highway. A 5-speed automatic transmission
with overdrive is standard. For those looking at
pre-owned Toyotas, the 2008 FJ Crusier
is a carryover from 2007 and we've got info for
you on the 2009 FJ Cruiser
as well.

If you are of a certain age, you'll recognize the
Toyota FJ Cruiser as the rebirth of an icon, the
Toyota FJ 40, better
known in North America as the original Land Cruiser.
It was a rugged, go-anywhere vehicle, a sport utility
vehicle decades before the genre had a name. Toyota
has definitely figured out how to build vehicles that
Americans want, such as the Camry, Corolla, Tacoma,
and luxurious Lexus models. On the other hand,
if you are of younger age than the nostalgia driven
oldies in search of manually locking hubs, you'll see the
Toyota FJ Cruiser
as something new and different and even unique on the
road.
While the FJ Cruiser was designed to appeal to
a youthful and mainly male audience, it also was designed
to be the most capable of all Toyotas when the pavement
gives way to tougher terrain and
obstacles that aren't typically found in shopping mall parking
lots or on Interstate highways.
And that is certainly saying something, given the capability
and history of the 4Runner and Tacoma.
The
2009 FJ Cruiser
seats five. The front doors are standard, front-hinged
doors. Rear-hinged access doors ease egress to the back
seat and cargo area. Rear access to the cargo area is
through a door hinged on the driver's side of the vehicle
instead of a typical roof-hinged hatch-style closure.
The FJ Cruiser
is excellent on rugged terrain yet very comfortable
on the road. Its V6 engine is more powerful than those
used in the Hummer H3 and Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon.
THANK YOU!
Thank you to everyone for your fabulous reviews
and comments. We are getting write-ins telling
us about some great off road stories, and lots of
snow/ski driving stories as well. We recently
received a write-in from Bill, a new FJ Cruiser
owner who took their new cruiser to their
Breckenridge Vacation Rental for a recent ski
trip. Loved hearing about the stranded
vehicles that couldn't make it to the slopes on a
snowy day, but Bill and his family just cruised on
through! now of course, we don't like hearing
about people being stuck on the road, but it was
fabulous to hear that Bill was able to enjoy a day
on the slopes thanks to his new FJ Cruiser!
